symbols?

I can't figure out how to get a certain symbol on a pc like the copyright symbol, etc. On a Mac it's easy, but I can't ever find it on my pc. Anyone?

Programs>Accessories>Systems Tools>Character Map

At least that's where it is on my PC laptop....but the Character map is the key.
